Tanja Segal interviewed Author of the book “Life After Wrap” Roy Ruiz “RJ”

Book: Life After Wrap on AMAZON

Twitter: @Securityfiles

TS: When did you first realize you wanted to be a writer?

RR:  Listening to my Grandfathers story as a kid was when I realized I wanted to do the same in telling and making up my own stories. Plus growing up I was a huge fan of the TV show “Amazing Stories”.

TS:  How long does it take you to write a book?

RR: It takes me 2 months to write a book.

TS:  What would you say is your interesting writing quirk?

RR:  I have to always have music. I have certain playlist for certain scenes that I write.

TS:  Where do you get your information or ideas for your books?

RR:  For my children’s book I got my Idea’s from my son’s life with Autism. For my security book I got my stories from working on set. I keep a journal with me and whenever something interesting happened at work I would write about it.

TS:  When did you write your first book and how old were you?

RR:  When I turned 40 last year, that was when I realized that I needed to get these books out.

TS:  What do you like to do when you’re not writing?

RR:  I enjoy spending time with my family, or watching movies. You can find me a lot on the Xbox. I also love to read. Get me a good comic book while eating a bean and cheese burrito with a cherry/blueberry slurpee and I’m the happiest guy around.

TS:  What was one of the most surprising things you learned in creating your book/s?

RR:  I learned just how creative I can be with the characters and worlds that I’ve created in my stories.

TS:  How many books have you written? Which is your favorite?

RR: I’ve written 2 books. The first is a children’s book called “Adventures of One Sock” and the other is called “Life After Wrap”. One is personal and based off my son’s life with Autism and the other was based off my work and all the crazy things that go on during a film set. I would say both books are my favorite.

TS:  Do you hear from your readers much? What kinds of things do they say?

RR:  I get feedback from people mostly good but I do get some negative feedback from people about my security book. Some people say I’m full of shit and others hate the fact that I ruined their liking for a certain Actor.

TS:  What do you think makes a good story?

RR: The characters and the story flow is what makes it good for me. If it’s too slow or doesn’t catch my attention in the first few pages then I’ll stop reading and go on to the next.

TS:  I saw you are writing scripts for Amazon Studios, how is the response &  how long takes it for you to write a script?

RR: Scripts are much easier and faster to write for me. I can write a script in 2 or 3 days. I’m getting good feedback about my scripts. I had a few meetings with Production companies regarding my scripts some good and some bad but overall I get the same reaction, they all love my writing.

TS:  As a child, what did you want to do when you grew up?

RR: When I was a child I always wanted to be a Police Officer but my parents wouldn’t let me, so my dreams went into writing and for some reason I always wanted to be a Director.

TS:  Roy, thank you very much for this interview! I bet the readers of this blog will enjoy it like I did 😉 I wish you all the best and good luck with your scripts and of course with your books!
